We installed new catch basins at Fairport Boces parking lot because the old catch basins were falling apart. We used our sewer jetter and sewer camera verify the condition of the corregated pipe. We found that the pipe connecting these two catch basins was very old, brittle, and filled with holes. The next phase of this job was to install new 12 and 15 inch culvert pipes.
June 21-22, 2011
We installed 240 feet of HDPE 17 pipe using a pipe bursting machine. This allows us to pull a new pipe through the ground in place of an old pipe without digging a trench. We chose this method because the sewer lateral we were replacing was in very bad shape, and it ran directly under a series of mobile homes. Using this method we were able to replace the entire sewer line without tunneling under each home, and leaving the lawns undisturbed.

We installed a traditional septic system in Palmyra, NY. When the homeowner had purchased the house a couple of years ago he wasn't told that the septic system did not work. The reason the septic system failed is because the leach lines were 3 feet below ground. There is no way to repair a system when this is the case. We did a percolation test on the soil and found that it was very sandy topsoil which is perfect for leach fields.

We replaced an old galvanized steel water line for a house in Fairport. Their water volume was very low because of mineral build-up in the line. It can be likened to a clogged artery. In an attempt to save the lawn and the sidewalk, we pulled the old waterline out and slid the new waterline in through the same hole.
December 5-7th, 2011
We installed a new septic tank and leach field. It was a Presby Environmental raised bed sand system. This is a more cost effective and environmentally friendly septic system than standard raised bed sand systems. Raised bed systems are only necessary when the natural soil has a poor percolation rate.

We lowered an existing catch basin at HD Supply in Rochester because the storm water wasn't able to fall into the basin due to poor grade. We cut down the catch basin with a concrete chain saw and then re poured the surrounding area.

Other Services
New advances in technology make it possible to repair a damaged pipe without digging or exposing the pipe. It is also possible to pull a new pipe through an old existing pipe without digging a trench. This technology is known as "No Dig" or "Trenchless" pipe replacement. Mark Porretta Excavating now offers a full line of trenchless pipe repair and replacement services.
Pipe Bursting
Pipe Bursting is the most effective form of trenchless pipe replacement. Using a pipe bursting machine, we can replace any existing pipe in the ground with a brand new pipe without digging a trench. It is also possible to upsize a pipe using the same method. This is the recomended way of replacing pipe when the pipe lays under lawns or landscape or pavement.
Pipe Patch
Pipe repair or pipe patch is a great way of fixing a damaged pipe without digging down to and fixing the pipe. This method uses a fiberglass and resin epoxy which bonds to the sides of the pipe. This mixture hardens into the exact shape of the pipe and actually becomes harder than the pipe itself. If there is root intrusion or a simple crack in the pipe, pipe patch is the way to go!
Underground Piercing
In situations where there is no existing pipe in the ground, piercing tools are used. These are sometimes refered to as missiles or moles. This method bores a hole in the ground which a pipe can be pulled through. These are common when the desired path of a pipe or utility line is under a no-dig area.
